St Xavier’s organizing mini marathon for social cause
Aiming to cater the prerequisite of education for underprivileged children in the remote parts of the country, St Xavier’s College (SXC) is organizing a charity event ‘The First SXC Mini Marathon’ on Saturday.
The mini marathon of 8 km will commence at 6.30 in the morning from the SXC premises and will divert towards Maitighar, Bhadrakali, Shahid Gate, Thapathali, Kupondole, Pulchowk andJhamsikhel, before returning the same route and ending at the college itself.
According to the organizers SXC Sports Club, the race will be participated by more than 1300 people, including student from different colleges.
Money raised from the event will go in the purchasing of educational materials and renovation of schools located in the remote parts of the country.
The event is part of social service programs that SXC pursues every year by mobilizing its students to work on the certain section of the society. And this year, the college is working in ‘social justice’ theme.
“SXC aims to serve underprivileged children from remote areas to their right to education through social event,” said college PrincipalFr Augustine Thoma.“Through the event the college is trying to create an awareness campaign on social injustice, inequality, violence and child edutaion and also positive impacts on the lives of people.”
The race is themed ‘child education for a just society.’
